It’s November, which means Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away. While Thanksgiving is a day set aside to be thankful, we want to challenge you and your family to practice thankfulness all month long. We’ve come up with a list of 30 categories of things to be thankful for. Now all you have to do is pick one each day and go through it as a family! This is a great way to get kids to practice being thankful, and it’s a great reminder for adults to remember how much we have to be thankful for.
To start, pick a number, or make it easy and go in order! Then, ask your kids (and self) what they’re thankful for in that category (e.g., “What is a toy you are thankful for today?”).
- A friend
- A color
- A food
- A dessert
- An animal
- A memory
- A grandparent
- An activity
- A vegetable
- A movie
- A toy
- A drink
- An ice cream flavor
- A smell
- A place
- A snack food
- A joke
- A song
- A sibling or cousin
- A candy bar
- A fruit
- A sport
- A teacher
- A song
- Something outside
- A stuffed animal
- A breakfast food
- A book
- A vacation memory
- A game
That’s it! The list is simple, but it’s all you need to start a conversation of thankfulness at home. And you don’t have to stop at the end of the month; print out the list and go through it again each month!
