On May 5th many people in Mexico and other countries celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Many people in the Unites States seem to think that Cinco de Mayo is Mexico’s independence day, but it is not. That is on September 16th.
Cinco de mayo actually commemorates the defeat of the French Army by the Mexican Army. This happened on May 5, 1862.
