April showers bring May flowers, but we all know those showers sometimes linger through the late spring. It can be tough to keep restless toddlers entertained indoors. That’s why we’ve rounded up four fabulous rainy day activities for your toddler that are sure to brighten the gloomiest day!
Cardboard Box Play
Save up those Amazon or diaper boxes for a rainy day. Let your child decorate the inside of a box with crayons and stickers, or work together to create your own airplane, car, or box city. Repurpose those boxes and let the creativity flow!
Make Your Own Rainbow
You don’t need to wait for the clouds to part to see a rainbow. Remember our ideas for spring crafts for kids? A rainy day is the perfect time to create your own rainbow suncatcher. Form an arch shape with glue stick on a window or glass door. Cut or tear small pieces of tissue paper and help your child arrange arrange them. Pro tip: this activity is a great way to teach your child the colors of the rainbow.
Indoor Bowling
Bowling is a great rainy day activity, but hitting the local bowling alley with your toddler probably isn’t ideal. Instead, set up your own bowling game using household objects for pins (think paper towel rolls, soda bottles, or plastic cups) and any toy ball around the house.
Sensory Activities
One of our favorite things to do on a rainy day is trying out new sensory activities. These can sound overwhelming, but they don’t need to be! You can easily create your own activities using things around the house. Try filling up a ziploc baggy with hair gel, and add some pom poms or sequins for added fun. Seal the bag and let your toddler play away! Another idea is to squirt a plate or baking with shaving cream. Add food coloring if you’d like, and let your little one explore the new texture.
