
Spring is upon us and it’s time to celebrate! That’s easy to do in Austin TX, a city known for its vibrant cultural scene. Luckily, there are numerous family-friendly events scheduled around the city promising fun and entertainment for all ages this April. Check out some of the top events to bring the family to, whether you have toddlers, preschoolers, or school-age kids.
ABC Kite Fest
The 97th ABC Kite Fest takes place on Saturday, April 5 at Zilker Park. This free event is the nation’s oldest kite festival, and runs from 10am to 5pm. The family will be sure to enjoy the hundreds of colorful kites that soar against the Austin skyline. There are many events to partake in throughout the day, from kite flying contests to games. Vendors will be on hand for delicious food and drink.
Capitol 10K
The 48th Annual Statesman Capitol 10,000 takes place on Sunday, April 6, 2025. You can join thousands of runners and walkers as they traverse the unique cityscape of Austin on foot. After the race, celebrate at the Finish Line Festival with free massages, food, cocktails, a kids’ zone, autograph wall, photo ops, and live music. The Capitol 10K is the state’s largest 10K race and one of the country’s top runs. Even if you decide not to participate, you can still come down to soak in the lively event atmosphere with music and festivities for the whole family.
Austin Reggae Festival
This iconic Austin music festival has been delighting crowds since 1994. The Austin Reggae Festival takes place April 18–20 at Auditorium Shores, featuring live performances, artisan vendors, unique gifts, and tasty food. All proceeds support the Capital Area Food Bank. In fact, this is the longest running festival in Austin at Auditorium Shores, donating more to the local Food Bank than any other event has in the past 30 years. This family-friendly event is perfect for Reggae or world-infused music lovers of all kinds.
Eeyore’s Birthday Party
This is a long-standing Austin tradition hosted by the non-profit organization Friends of the Forest Foundation. Take this opportunity to meet the greater Austin community, with all proceeds donated to non-profits in Central Texas. Eeyore’s Birthday Party takes place on April 26 at Pease District Park. This beloved Austin tradition has been around since 1963, and is a whimsical celebration featuring food vendors, live music, and vibrant costumes. There are many activities for families to partake in, from drum circles to games.
Austin Psych Fest
If you’ve got older kids or teens, head to the Austin Psych Fest for an immersive experience in psychedelic music and art. It takes place April 25–27 at The Far Out Lounge. Check out indie rock icons and experimental rock bands, with a background of liquid light and video of Austin’s most talented visuals artists. This is a three-day weekend of music and art in South Austin, showcasing an eclectic lineup of artists and mind-bending visuals to celebrate creativity and expression.
Pecan Street Festival
While not technically in April, we thought the 50th annual Pecan Street Festival was still worth a mention. It takes place May 3 and 4 in the Sixth Street Historic District. This is a free, family-friendly festival featuring live music, variety of food options, and arts and crafts vendors. Take this chance to explore local artisans while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of Austin’s historic district.
Austin Blues Festival
The 3rd Annual Austin Blues Festival takes place April 26 to 27 at Moody Amphitheater in Waterloo Park. One-day and two-day tickets are available for this event that caters to music enthusiasts who enjoy soulful tunes in a beautiful outdoor setting. Families will enjoy performances by renowned blues artists, as well as food trucks and activities within a lively atmosphere.
Plant Culture Market
On Sunday, April 20, head to Lulu’s in Austin for the Plant Culture Market. Dedicated to plant lovers, this unique market features a variety of plants, workshops, and gardening supplies. The family will enjoy learning about different plant species and can pick up some greenery for their own homes. It’s free to get in to this eclectic celebration of global plant-based merchandise and culinary arts. Local chefs offer various cultural perspectives to offer a wide-ranging menu of vegan dishes from all over the world. This family-friendly event is set amidst a backdrop of sustainable and vegan-friendly products, featuring live music and entertainment.
KhushFest 2025 – Austin Color Festival
Taking place April 5 in Republic Square, check out this vibrant festival celebrating Indian culture with dance, music, and the traditional throwing of multi-colored powders. This lively and colorful event can be enjoyed by families of all ages.
