
With 2025 on our doorstep, it’s time to get crafty. Check out these fun DIY crafts you can make with the kids to ring in the new year.
Popsicle Stick Noisemaker
All you need for this festive craft are a few craft sticks, sparkly pipe cleaners, small bells, and star stickers.
Directions:
- Slide three bells onto a pipe cleaner.
- Wrap the pipe cleaner around a craft stick.
- Put a sparkly sticker at the top.
- Curl additional pipe cleaners near the top of the craft stick.
- Shake and enjoy!
Shooting Star Banner
Proclaim your excitement for the new year with this shooting star banner.
You will need:
- Thick paper such as watercolor paper
- Two pieces of white paper for banner
- Hot glue
- Sticks or dowels
- Markers and watercolor pens
Directions:
- Draw stars on the watercolor paper, decorating it with markers and watercolors
- Glue some glitter on for extra sparkle.
- Cut out stars and set aside.
- Tape two pieces of the white paper together, using your art supplies to write sayings like “Happy New Year” or “Welcome 2025!”, etc.
- Leave enough white space on the sides where your stars will go.
- Fold the banner in an accordion style, hot gluing one star to each end (help kids with this step!).
- Glue sticks or straws to each star.
- Pull the sign outwards to reveal your new sign. Display and enjoy.
Toilet Paper Roll Fireworks
This craft couldn’t get any easier! Here’s how to make a festive fireworks craft with toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls. Bonus: this craft also works well for the 4th of July!
You will need:
- Red and blue washable paint (mess free) or acrylic paint (thicker results)
- 12×12 paper or white easel paper
- Glitter
Directions:
- Cut slits around one end of the roll (longer slits will make bigger fireworks; thinner slits will show more detail).
- Add paint to a dish or paper plate.
- Tell the kids to stamp the rolls into the paint.
- Fill the roll with paint, making sure to cover all slits.
- Stamp the roll onto the white paper for fireworks.
- Add glitter while the paint is still wet.
- Let dry, then shake off excess glitter.
New Year’s Eve Party Hats
This fun-for-all-ages party hat craft is a great way to keep the kids busy while counting down the minutes to New Year’s.
You will need:
- Printable party hats
- Cardstock
- Crayons, markers, or colored pencils
- Scissors
- Scoring tool
- Paper adhesive or tape runner
- Ribbon or elastic cord
- Pom poms
- Glitter glue, sequins, etc. (optional)
Directions:
- Print out the hat template on cardstock and color it in.
- Cut out the template, then make a crease on the dotted line with the scoring tool.
- Fold along the line, then lay it flat down again.
- Use a line of tape runner or dab some glue next to the dotted line.
- Curl the hat, bringing the two ends together.
- Align the edge with the dotted line, pressing the glued edge or tape underneath the other end; hold until it stays.
- Punch a hole on either side, tying elastic cord or ribbon through the holes so you can wear the hat.
- Add glitter glue, sequins, and other embellishments, as well as a pom pom on top.
Disco Ball
Dance the night away under your very own New Year’s disco ball.
You will need:
- Paper plates
- Paper
- Glue sticks
- Tin foil
- Stapler
- Silver paper or glitter paper
Directions:
- Cut up some small silver squares using tin foil or silver paper.
- Trace a paper plate onto a piece of paper and cut it out.
- Glue the silver squares to this circle, then attach it to the back of the paper plate with staples.
- Repeat for a second side.
- Staple both sides together to make a disco ball.
