This year, the State Fair of Texas will be here from September 29 through October 22. This beloved tradition is always a go-to event for people of all ages. It’s especially family friendly thanks to all the events, activities, and shows geared toward young people.

A tradition that dates back to 1886, the State Fair of Texas celebrates all-things-Texan through the promotion of agriculture, community involvement, and education thanks to quality entertainment within a family-friendly environment. This 24-day annual event takes place in Dallas, and most things are included in your admission ticket.

Let’s take a look at all the family fun and shows taking place at this year’s fair.

Soap Bubble Circus

Come to the Oak Farms Theater daily to see the Soap Bubble Circus perform Guinness World Record-breaking bubble-ology feats. Some of the amazing sights you’ll see include a tightrope-dancing snowman, exploding volcano, and so much more. Great for little kids.

Street Circus

New this year to the Fringe Stage, a fun husband and wife-duo showcase their acrobatic talents. Your family will be treated to hand-to-hand acrobatics, handstands, hula hoops, contortions, and comedy acts.

Dinosaurs at the Lagoon

Come check out these prehistoric wonders at the Fair Park for Dinosaurs at the Lagoon, featuring 10 life-sized dinosaurs that have been found in Texas, lots of seating and dining options, and a kids’ play area. Don’t miss the Dinosaurs at the Lagoon exhibit, complete with bilingual educational entertainment for the entire family. You can even snap a photo with a 57-foot-tall Alamosaurus.

Dino Tales with Dr. Diggie-Bones

Dr. Diggie-Bones entertains you at her dig site for a playful yet informative interactive story time. Part of the Dinosaurs at the Lagoon exhibit, her stories center around archeological digs and pre-historic creatures. This show is for children under eight years old.

Acrobuffos

Cool off by watching a water balloon fight when you see this new act where Acrobuffos brings Water Bombs to the Fringe Stage. This interactive water balloon fight is just what you need to beat the heat. Don’t want to get wet? Bring an umbrella!

Home for the Holidays Experience

Star your holiday celebration early this year with beautifully-decorated Texas Christmas trees on display. This event is a partnership with the Texas Discovery Gardens and Jackson’s Home and Garden. You’ll be inspired to decorate your own home this holiday time. Time to get in the Christmas spirit!

Sara Twister

Sara Twister, world-renowned street performer, is an amazing contortionist and archer. She brings her amazing skills to the Fringe Stage with her mind- and body-bending archery trick shots infused with comedy.

State Fair of Texas Rodeo

Come to the historic Fair Park Coliseum to witness the State Fair of Texas Rodeo. This tradition takes place every weekend, Friday through Sunday. Watch as ranchers round up cattle and celebrate the many cultures involved in the rodeo with the Mexican Rodeo Fiesta. This October, you’ll also get to see the Year-End Finale of the United Professional Rodeo Association (UPRA) in the Fair Park Coliseum as part of the exciting rodeo lineup. 

Starlight Parade

You’ll be amazed by the spectacular over-the-top floats when you view the Kroger Starlight Parade created by Kern Studios of New Orleans. The Fair Park skyline will be lit up in bright lights with this nightly parade that meanders through the fairgrounds throughout the month. The colorful assortment of floats, life-sized puppets, and animated characters are sure to delight the kids. This parade takes place every night at 7:15 p.m.

Mighty Mike Show

Head to the Fringe Stage with strongman Mighty Mike, whose claim to fame is bending horseshoes, juggling bowling balls and sledgehammers, and more. This hilarious performance showcases strongman techniques dating back to the 1920s, not to mention his funny dance routines. Get inspired by the culture of the old-time strongman with the Mighty Mike Show.

Tanna Banana Storytime

New this year, Tanna Banana brings children’s stories and songs to life with whimsical antics and a magical show for all ages. Check her out at Howdy’s near the Band Shell.

All-Star Stunt Dog Show

This popular show will take place at Marine Corps Square as the world’s original “stunt dog show.” You will have to see these canine tricks to believe them! The All-Star Stunt Dog Show dogs are no strangers to performing around the country. In fact, they have even been on the Oprah Winfrey Show and Ellen DeGeneres Show.
