
From super cute candies to yummy baked goods, Thanksgiving is a time to treat yourself while being thankful for everything you have. Try these adorable Thanksgiving treats with your kids to get everyone excited for the upcoming holiday.
Pumpkin Cookie Pops
These bright iced pumpkin pops are not only delicious but they’re cute as well. You may even not want to eat them because they look so pretty!
You will need:
- 1/2 cup softened butter
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 cup canned pumpkin
- 2-1/2 cups flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 30 wooden pop sticks
- 1/3 cup green gumdrops, cut in half lengthwise
ICING:
- 4 cups confectioner sugar
- 5 tbsp. water
- 3 tbsp. meringue powder
- Green and orange gel food coloring or paste
Directions:
- Cream butter and sugars in large bowl until light and fluffy.
- Beat in vanilla and egg, then beat in pumpkin.
- Combine flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and baking soda; gradually add this to the creamed mixture, mixing well.
- Drop dough by two tablespoonfuls, placed two inches apart, onto greased or parchment-lined baking sheets.
- Insert sticks into the dough, as well as gumdrop piece, into the tops of each.
- Bake at 350° for about 15 minutes.
- Place on wire racks to cool.
- To make the icing, combine confectioner sugar, meringue power and water in a large bowl until smooth. Put 1/2 cup in another bowl; covering and setting aside.
- Stir orange food coloring into remaining icing. Spread or pipe over the cookies.
- Let sit for a half hour.
- Tint reserved icing with the green food coloring and then pipe the leaves and vines.
Pilgrim Hat Cookies
These cute pilgrim hat cookies make the perfect addition to your Thanksgiving table or for a playdate. Just make sure no one in the group has a peanut allergy.
You will need:
- 1 cup vanilla frosting
- 7 drops yellow food coloring
- 32 mini peanut butter cups
- 32 pieces orange bubblegum bits
- 32 fudge-striped cookies
Directions:
- Combine frosting and the yellow food coloring in small bowl.
- Take off the paper liners from the peanut butter cups.
- Dip top of cup in yellow frosting while holding onto the bottom of the peanut butter cup.
- Position it over center hole on the bottom of the fudge-striped cookie for the hatband and crown.
- Add one orange bubblegum bit for the buckle, then repeat with remaining cookies and cups.
Gobbler Goodies
These gobbler goodies make for a cute place setting at your Thanksgiving table this November. Impress your guests and feast on something yummy!
You will need:
- 1/4 cup cubed butter
- 4 cups mini marshmallows
- 28 chocolate sandwich cookies
- 6 cups crisp rice cereal
- 1-1/2 cups chocolate frosting
- 1 package (11 oz.) candy corn
- 28 malted milk balls
- White candy coating (optional)
Directions:
- Melt butter in a large saucepan, then add marshmallows.
- Stir over low heat until mixture is melted, then stir in cereal.
- Cool for 10 minutes.
- Form cereal mixture into 1-1/2-inch balls.
- Twist apart the cookies, spreading chocolate frosting over each half of the cookie.
- Place 28 cookie halves under the cereal balls as the basis for each turkey.
- In a fan pattern, place five pieces of candy corn on each remaining cookie half, pressing each onto a cereal ball for the tail.
- Attach two pieces of candy corn with frosting to each cereal ball for the turkey wings.
- Using frosting, attach a malted milk ball for each head.
- Cut the white tip off the extra candy corn, attaching them to the heads with frosting for the beak.
- Add melted white candy coating to a piping bag, piping it onto the head to form the eyes. Allow to sit until frosting has set.
