Summer is just a few days away, and we’ve got a list full of summer activities in Austin that your kids will love. Pick your favorite activity to try from our list below, or try them all this summer!

Go to the Austin Zoo

The Austin Zoo is the perfect place for a warm, summer day. Kids of all ages will enjoy seeing their favorite animals and learning about new ones. If you’ve got a little train lover in the family, be sure to get tickets for the 20-minute train ride, where you may even see longhorns, alpacas, and emus.
The Austin Zoo also has Scout Workshops that you can attend. Get a group of friends together and enjoy learning together! Be sure to call and schedule your group in advance.

Go Fishing

There are plenty of places to fish near Austin. You can fish for free at McKinney Falls State Park, Lake Pflugerville, Southeast Metropolitan Park, and local neighborhood ponds.  And the best part is, you shouldn’t even have to worry about purchasing a fishing license. According to Texas Parks & Wildlife regulations, children under 17 and any person fishing from the banks of a state-park enclosed waterway do not need a fishing license.
So grab your fishing poles, some bait, and a picnic lunch, and enjoy a day of fishing together.

Watch an Outdoor Movie (July 12)

On July 12, the Austin Humane Society will be hosting an outdoor movie night on their lawn. They’ll be featuring a family-friendly, animal-themed movie, and there will be concessions and activities to enjoy as well. You can even bring your dog along, as long as it is well-behaved and on a leash.
The Austin Humane Society has more than movies planned this summer. Check out their website for a full list of their summer activities for kids, from art workshops to educational wildlife classes.

Swim at Barton Springs Pool

This 3-acre, spring fed swimming hole is one of the best places to swim in Austin. Plus, at only $1 for children under 12, $2 for kids 12-17, and $3 for adults, it’s the perfect summer day activity that’s easy on the budget. Grab your swimming suit and your favorite snacks, and spend the day splashing around at Barton Springs Pool!
Don’t forget to bring the sunscreen!
